YoungShip Helsinki: A thriving community for young professionals in the maritime industry

YoungShip Helsinki is a non-profit organization for young professionals in the maritime industry. It is part of the global YoungShip network, which has over 20,000 members in over 30 countries.

YoungShip Helsinki was founded in 2011, and it has since grown into a thriving community of over 300 members. The organization aims to provide young people with the opportunity to network with other professionals in the industry, to learn about new developments, and to develop their skills.

YoungShip Helsinki organizes a variety of events throughout the year, including professional seminars, social gatherings, and company visits. These events provide members with the opportunity to meet and learn from experienced professionals, to discover new career opportunities, and to make new friends.

YoungShip Helsinki visiting ShipCon 2022 in Bergen

8-9 September 2022, the annual conference ShipCon took place in Bergen, Norway. YoungShip Helsinki was there to get more insights from the Norwegian shipping market as well as the industry as a whole. The theme of the conference were "A voyage from cradle to grave" and as delegates of the conference you were treated to many  engaged and enthusiastic speakers, whilst gaining insight on highly relevant topics demonstrating both the historic perspective as well as the new challenges and change ahead of us.

In the evening of the first day we were treated with a boat trip on the fjords of Bergen, and afterwards sat down for a dinner at the beautiful office premises of Grieg Maritime Group. During the evening the Young Corporation Award were handed to Grieg Maritime Group on behalf of YoungShip International for their continuous work in driving forward young talent within their organization and in the maritime industry.

Thank you to YoungShip Bergen for well organized event. YoungShip Helsinki returned home full of inspiration and are more exited than ever to host ShipCon in 2023!


YS Helsinki at Åland Maritime Day 2022

Thank you to all YoungShip Helsinki members that attended our breakfast seminar Defining the Levels of Autonomy with One Sea's Eero Lehtovaara. We had a great time and we hope you did too!

On 12 May 2022 Mariehamn was filled with marine industry professionals once again for the annual Åland Maritime Day. YoungShip Helsinki invited member to Sea Lines' office for a breakfast seminar with the topic Defining the Levels of Autonomy held by One Seas chairman of the board Eero Lehtovaara. We had members representing Finnlines, OSM, Gard, ABB, ESL Shipping, VTS, Baltic Line, Spinverse, Fintraffic, IF, MEPA, and Krogius Van Ameyde attending.

We started the mornings with some breakfast and mingle. It was great to meet everyone again in Åland. This was followed by the presentation from Eero Lehtovaraa.

YS Helsinki Padel event 7 September 2021

After a long break of having live events, YoungShip Helsinki organized the first padel event in beginning of September.

On 7 September 2021 YoungShip Helsinki members met at Hernesaaren ranta in Helsinki to play padel. We had members representing Finnlines, OSM, Gard, ABB, ESL Shipping, VTS and Krogius Van Ameyde attending.

As many had not played padel before, Negota Law’s (sponsor of the event) Dina Stolt started with an introduction of the sport. This was followed by a warm up and a tournament.
