Step aboard the impressive SWATH ship m/v WANDELAAR and experience a rare journey into the heart of the bustling North Sea. Operated by the Belgian maritime authority DAB VLOOT, m/v WANDELAAR offers a unique glimpse into the world of pilotage at sea. As you cruise through one of the busiest maritime crossroads in the world, you'll witness firsthand how large seagoing vessels are expertly guided by professional pilots. The ship’s innovative SWATH design ensures exceptional stability, even in rough conditions. Watch as coordination, timing, and seamanship come together. Throughout the tour, you'll gain insights into the critical role pilot vessels play in global trade and maritime safety. From the bridge of the WANDELAAR, you'll enjoy panoramic views of towering container ships, heavy loaded bulk carriers and fast coasters.
Program of the visit:
- 12:00h: Leaving Antwerp by car (We will carpool from a central location)
- 14:00h: Embark the tenderswath in Ostend Q102
- 15:00h: Boarding of m/v WANDELAAR (At Sea)
- 18:00h: Disembarking of m/v WANDELAAR (At sea)
- 19:00h: Return by tenderswath to Ostend Q102
- 21:00h: Estimated return to Antwerp by car
Practical info:
- Be on time!
- Wear comfortable and warm clothing (Even in case of nice weather).
- Wear comfortable, flat shoes (no heels) with non-slippery shoe soles.
- A life jacket will be provided.
- If you are sensitive to seasickness, please take a motion-sickness medicine in advance.
Remarks:
- This is a very exclusive event and limited to 7 members per day (2 dates available) and therefore we count on your presence when you are subscribed. In case you need to cancel, please inform us immediately, so we can invite another member to join.
- This event is depending on good weather conditions. In case the weather conditions at sea do not allow a safe transfer of crew, the event will be cancelled or postponed.

Exclusive visit to EDR Antwerp Shipyard
From humble beginnings in the late '90s as a small workshop handling emergency repairs, EDR Antwerp Shipyard has grown into Belgium's largest and most advanced ship repair company. Originally known as Engine Deck Repair NV, the company built its reputation by delivering fast, reliable service right where it was needed. Over time, EDR expanded its technical expertise to include extensive afloat repairs and conversions. By 2006, it broadened its services with the distribution of spare parts and technical supplies, further strengthening its offering to clients. The addition of services for inland vessels in 2011 marked a turning point, cementing EDR’s status as a national leader in ship repair. In 2015, EDR took a major step forward by acquiring the shipyard at quay 403, right in the heart of the Port of Antwerp. Since then, significant investments have been made in modernizing the drydocks, the cranes, the berths, and the workshops to meet the demands of modern maritime industries. Today, EDR Antwerp Shipyard is fully equipped to handle the most challenging repair, conversion, and construction projects with precision and professionalism. their mission is not just to repair ships—but to set the standard in drydocking and technical excellence through continuous innovation. When vessels come to EDR, they’re not just maintained—they’re transformed.
Let's dive into the world of shipbuilding and shiprepair on the 21st of August during an exclusive tour behind the scenes. We wrap-up with a nice BBQ at the shipyard.
We ask a contribution of €15,00 EUR for the BBQ and drinks after the visit. (Any dietary restrictions or allergens can be mentioned in the registration form)

Visit to EUROPA terminal - 19th June 2025
Exclusive Member Visit: PSA EUROPA TERMINAL
Youngship Belgium is excited to invite our members to an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the renewal of PSA's EUROPA TERMINAL Q869 at the Port of Antwerp. Established in 1990, The EUROPA TERMINAL was the first tidal container terminal in the port, designed to reduce container loading and off-loading times by 4 to 6 hours compared to terminals located behind the locks.
During the visit, you'll receive an in-depth tour of the terminal, a detailed explanation of its operations, and insights into the ongoing infrastructure projects aimed at further enhancing efficiency.
After the tour, we invite you to join us at a local bar to unwind, share your thoughts, and discuss the fascinating insights gained from the visit over a drink.
Please make sure to bring your PPE for this visit (helmet, high visibility vest, long sleeve shirt and pants, safety boots). Please let us know if you lack anything.

Dragonboat festival – 10th May 2025
Saturday 10th May is RACE DAY!
YoungShip Belgium will join the Hongkong Dragonboat race with its own dragonboat. We need the enthusiasm and power of members to row the 200m sprint together!
Join us for a fun and exiting day, and hopefully we can improve our record (01:19.94) from last edition in 2024!
Members can also join during the day to connect and cheer to the brave rowers.
