Erlend Holberg Appointed as New Secretary General of YoungShip International
We are thrilled to announce that Erlend Holberg has been appointed as the new Secretary General of YoungShip International. Erlend brings a wealth of experience and a dynamic perspective to this role, as an active member since 2017 and recently served on the board of YoungShip Oslo since 2022. Throughout his tenure in the YSO Board, Erlend has showcased exceptional leadership as the Head of Projects, where he spearheaded the successful hosting of Young @ Nor-Shipping in 2023.
With an education from NHH, several years in Wilhelmsen and currently employed at Kongsberg Digital, Erlend's professional background aligns seamlessly with the mission and values of YoungShip International. Known for his social nature, inclusive and creative mindset, and unwavering drive, Erlend embodies the essence of our organization's commitment to fostering global connectivity and professional development within the maritime industry.
Upon his appointment, Erlend expressed his thoughts. "I am both humble, proud, and thankful," he said. "Humble for the trust vested in me. Proud of the efforts and deliveries we have provided over the last years in the Board of YSO. Finally I am thankful for the opportunity given to explore new arenas for the organization, interact with international members and partners, assist in supporting current and new ventures, along with collaborating with the Board of YSI. I want to extend a special thank you to Lene and the current Board of YSI whom have ensured safe passage throughout the past years."

Successful launch of YoungShip Bangladesh
We are thrilled to announce the official launch of YoungShip Bangladesh, as the 37th department of YoungShip International and its 6th department in Asia. This is a proud moment for us as it opened a new chapter of innovation and growth in the maritime industry!
Hosted grandly at the Westin Dhaka on February 25th, 2024, this launch event was a resounding success, thanks to the generous support of valued sponsors: Interport Group, VISCO Logistics, and Doria Shipping. Their contribution played a pivotal role in making this milestone event truly remarkable.
Inaugurated by esteemed Chief Guest, Syed Ershad Ahmed, President of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Bangladesh, and graced by the presence of Commodore Syed Ariful Islam, BN (Retd.), Former Director General of the Department of Shipping, Bangladesh, as the Special Guest, the launch event was truly distinguished.
The program also featured Honorary Board Advisors of YoungShip Bangladesh, including Engr. Obaidullah Ibne Bashir, Engineer & Ship Surveyor & Examiner at the Department of Shipping, and Halima Begum, Associate Professor at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University (BSMRMU), who spoke at the occasion.
Additionally, Honorary Board Advisors Sarwar Jahan, Deputy Managing Director of SR Shipping, and Moinul Islam, Director of TYSERS Risk Management Bangladesh Ltd, graced the occasion with their presence.

Are you a motivated and independent professional with an interest in the maritime industry, and able to commit to a part-time position?
YoungShip International, a professional non-profit organization for young individuals in the global maritime industry, is actively seeking a Secretary General. Founded in Norway in 2004, YoungShip's network now spans 37 departments worldwide with over 5000 members. We are dedicated to fostering a deeper understanding of the maritime industry among our members and promoting young entrepreneurs focused on environmental challenges, social responsibility, and green technology innovation.
As Secretary General, you will be at the helm of our organization's administration, responsible for delivering on commitments to our partners, supporting our 37 global departments, and actively promoting the maritime industry.
We are looking for a candidate with a strong interest in the industry, characterized by independence, proactivity, rapid learning, and technical acumen. Excellent communication skills are essential, and therefore full English proficiency is a requirement.
The Secretary General will be based in Norway – preferably Oslo and must be self-employed (enkeltmannsforetak), working under a service agreement. The position is flexible, with services provided on an hourly basis, estimated to be a 30% role. The Secretary General will work closely with the YoungShip International board and maintain regular communication with the President.
The position is available from March 2024, with an expected commitment of 2 years.

Young Corporation Award 2023
The Young Corporation Award was established in 2012 with the aim of recognizing and celebrating exemplary employers who demonstrate a commitment to nurturing and developing young talent. This initiative not only acknowledges the efforts made by these companies but also serves as an inspiration for other organizations to enhance their focus on the growth and development of young individuals.
The Young Corporation Award is presented annually during ShipCon. This year, the award was given to Van Ameyde Krogius for their commitment to nurturing young talent.
Providing opportunities to the youth is evident through the substantial number of young professionals they have brought on board, fortified in the workforce and by that contributing to the development of the next generation of industry leaders.
What sets them apart is their proactive approach to also provide the younger workforce with the opportunity the represent the company. These individuals, despite their age, consistently serve as ambassadors for Van Ameyde Marine in general, and in this case for Van Ameyde Krogius more specifically in various capacities. Whether it is participating in industry events, engaging with clients, or showcasing their expertise.

YoungShip International concluded its Annual General Meeting on June 7th, announcing the elected board members for the 2023-2024 term. Keshia Janssens continues as President, while Hanna Donning succeeds Philippos Ioulianou as the new Vice President. Joining the board are Einar Antoine Ørn Michel as Treasurer, Andreas Christoforou (President of YoungShip Cyprus), and Natalie Le Nguyen (Chair of YoungShip Oslo). The new additions enhance international representation and enable YoungShip to better serve its diverse membership. With a dynamic board, YoungShip International is set to create opportunities, foster collaborations, and contribute to the global maritime industry's development.
