YoungShip Sørlandet – Vessel Visit MS Lofoten

YoungShip Sørlandet recently visited MS Lofoten and Maritim Videregående Skole Sørlandet for an inspiring afternoon with engaged students and Principal Harald Rønning. We gained valuable insight into the school’s programs and student life, and it was great to connect with young talents entering the maritime industry.

A big thank you for the warm welcome and for sharing your knowledge with us!

Vessel visit with YoungShip Sørlandet! ⚓

Vessel visit with YoungShip Sørlandet!

Today we had the pleasure of stepping aboard the stunning cruise vessel M/S Amera, thanks to the warm welcome from the Amera Crew and Arendal Port.

From restaurants and bars to a spa, pools, and even a running track – this ship has it all! The highlights? Meeting so many positive and service minded crew members, as well as the full tour of the bridge given by the Officer on watch.

We wrapped up the visit with coffee on deck, soaking in the sea breeze with great company. A big thank you to everyone who made this visit happen! 🚢

Arendal city really showed itself from the best side today ☀️

Field trip to Yara Birkeland 30.05.23

On Tuesday 30th of May, Youngship Sørlandet had the pleasure of arranging the first vessel visit of 2023! On a sunny day, 11 YSS members met together and drove to Porsgrunn to go onboard the autonomous vessel Yara Birkeland, the world's first fully electric and autonomous container vessel developed by Yara International and Kongsberg. Designed for inland and short-sea shipping, it aims to replace diesel trucks, reducing emissions and combating climate change. The vessel operates autonomously, using advanced sensors and AI to navigate safely. With electric propulsion powered by renewable energy sources, it eliminates local emissions and minimizes energy consumption. Yara Birkeland has a cargo capacity of 120 TEUs and is primarily focused on transporting fertilizers

Many thanks to the Captain Svend Ødegård for giving us an introduction to the ship and the project of Yara Birkeland, answering all our questions re operation, safety, design and future ambitions.

One happy gang of YSS members!
