YoungShip Oslo is seeking potential members of the board of 2025. After an amazing 2024, with 1-2 events per month, all fully booked, YoungShip Oslo is looking for a board willing to maintain the good level of activity, perhaps even lifting the network to even greater heights. 2025 is a Nor-Shipping year, with Nor-Shipping celebrating their 60 year anniversary, and we are responsible for many events during this festival week.

While YoungShip Oslo has many volunteers contributing to maintaining the network through events and social network interaction, the board is at the heart of it all, setting the course. The board consists of around 7 members. The positions for 2024 are described below. The board meets regularly and are responsible for the daily operations of YoungShip Oslo.

The board application process is handled by the election committee of YoungShip Oslo. To apply, fill out the form you reach through the button below. The deadline for applications is January 19th, and the election committee will then begin contacting the applicants. Board positions

The current board positions as described by the current members are shown below.

Chair of the board: Vilde Lyngstad Hageselle

As the Chair, I can emphasise the importance of this role within our organisation. Over the past year, I have gained valuable personal and professional experience. My main responsibilities include ensuring that our direction aligns with our goals, overseeing board operations, leading our board meetings, and assisting board members when and where needed. I am also involved in developing new partnerships on YSO's behalf. A crucial aspect of the role is maintaining smooth internal operations, and the Chair must ensure positive relationships within the organisation. This involves creating an environment that encourages open communication, collaboration, and mutual respect among board members and committees. This requires strong communication skills and the ability to facilitate for solid teamwork. The candidate should have a good understanding of our organisation, strong leadership and strategic planning skills. The ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders in the maritime industry is also important.

Head of Projects: Anette Jacobsen Aspelund

As Head of Projects, you own the overall responsibility for the larger projects arranged by YoungShip Oslo. You hold the lead on Young@Nor-Shipping, ShipCon and other events during the board period. Together with a committee of 15-20 members, you must foster partnerships, secure resources and sponsorships, and ensure that each project is impactful and valuable for our members. Most importantly, you have fun, gain valuable experience and network in this role.

As Vice Chair you are an important support for the Chair of the board. This role involves stepping in for the Chair when needed and helping guide the board in decision-making processes. You are also responsible for motivating and creating cooperation between the board members. Solid communication and leadership skills come in handy, as well as the ability to create collaboration across the organisation’s committees and volunteers.

Head of Events: Matthieu Kjerland Carron

As Head of Events, you are responsible for partnering with the event committee to plan and execute all events for YoungShip Oslo’s members throughout the year. Together with the committee, you will build networks and strengthen relationships with stakeholders in the maritime industry, while also serving as an ambassador for YoungShip Oslo. This role involves close collaboration on every aspect of event planning, including venue selection, sponsor communications, budgeting, and setting the agenda. You will ensure clear communication of information to the relevant board and committee members involved with planning of the individual events.

Head of Finances: Hanna Remvang

As Head of Finance for YoungShip Oslo, you are responsible for maintaining the organization's cash flow and keeping track of the budget in a growing organization. You will be in charge of financial planning and will work closely on a daily basis with the Head of Events, Chair, and Head of Projects. As Head of Finance, you will be involved in other tasks such as partnership agreements, sales, and VAT. You will also have primary responsibility for the financial aspects of Nor-Shipping 2025 and you will work closely with audit committee. It is your responsibility that the organization has a healthy balance aligned with the board’s ambitions and the organization’s main purpose - to provide education, socializing and fun for all our members.

Head of Communications: Margrethe Hartmann

The Head of Communications (HoC) plays a key role in keeping members updated on events and other news. By using newsletters and website updates, the HoC provides event information and news throughout the year.

Before each event, the HoC works closely with the board, relevant committees, and relevant stakeholders to ensure clear and effective external communication.

The HoC brings creativity and innovation to the role, enhancing the organization through engaging newsletters and website updates. Strong time management and attention to detail are essential, as creating newsletters requires coordinating with various parties.Platforms like WordPress and Mailchimp are used to share information with members.

Head of Marketing: Teodor Strand-Johansen

The Head of Marketing is responsible for the marketing strategy and brand awareness. Content creation is a central part of this role, and you are responsible for our social media channels. You will also have the responsibility that pictures are taken at events ensuring high quality content for both our members and sponsors. The Head of Digital Marketing works closely with the other board members and in particular the Head of Communications and Events. An interest in both SoMe, design and visual storytelling is important in this role.

Head of Internal Affairs: Eirik Søreide Hansen

As head of internal affairs one is responsible to keep the wheels turning in the YoungShip Oslo organization. This includes being familiar with the different technologies and softwares used, such as Wordpress, Rubic and Google Workplace, and being able to find new solutions when the need arises.

In 2024 I have had one committee member assisting me in the work, and we have met regularly and discussed how to make the operations of YoungShip Oslo more sustainable.

The focus the last year was to automate as much as possible, assist in replacing our accounting system, and to facilitate the development of an internal wiki for knowledge sharing.
