For three days, Genoa will become a crossroads of international expertise and Italian excellence.
Prof. Michele Comenale Pinto
On March 27, 2025, Prof. Michele Comenale Pinto, professor of Maritime Law at the University of Sassari, gave a lecture on a fascinating and complex topic: shipwrecks, between the Maritime Code and the Nairobi Convention.
During the meeting, the professor illustrated Italian and international legislation, citing famous shipwrecks, such as that of the Estonia (1994), and emphasizing the importance of Italy ratifying the Nairobi Convention (WRC 2007) as soon as possible.
🔍 At the end of the lecture, YoungShip members animated the debate with questions about other famous shipwrecks, such as that of the Costa Concordia.
🎤 The meeting was introduced by Marinella Gaia Stanca and moderated by Emanuele Caretti, and concluded with thanks from President Nicolò Iguera, who joined from Genoa together with a large group of members.
Dr. Fabrizio Fiorito
Expert financial advisor Fabrizio Fiorito gave us a detailed overview of the peculiarities of structuring a ship financing transaction, emphasizing the importance of freight rates, which add value to the ship itself.
He also retraced the history of ship financing, starting with the crisis of the 2010s and continuing to the present day, providing us with a comprehensive picture of how investment funds have taken on a predominant role in the sector.
We concluded the meeting with a lively Q&A session during which Fabrizio answered participants' questions and analyzed the impact on the sector of the structural change that has seen ship financing pass from the hands of banks to those of investment funds.
